Five Things Every Parent Should Know

Before Choosing A Dance Studio

If most dance studios seem to have qualified, experienced, friendly teachers, a decent facility and a big show at the end of the year, then does it really matter which studio you decide to enrol your child at? Absolutely. There are five main things that can make a huge difference in the quality of instruction your child receives, the amount of extra work and hassles the parent must deal with, and the overall enjoyment and satisfaction of being involved with a dance program. Here are five things that every parent should consider before deciding on a dance studio for their child.

1. How professional is the facility?

Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot jumping, which can put stress on bones and joints. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support, so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees and back of a dancer. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing a studio with a professional ‘floating floor’, such as CDA Dance Academy. A floating floor is a dance floor that rests on a system of high-density padding to absorb the shock of jumping. In addition, CDA’s studios are equipped with wall length mirrors, ballet barres and high ceilings to assist in the teaching of proper technique in all our classes. For parents there is a large waiting area, viewing windows, and closed circuit T.V. to observe classes in session.

2. How do the Programs we offer differ from other studios?

All of our instructors are certified, and are constantly updating their qualifications. Having professionals who continue to learn new and exciting dance styles and techniques allows our students to benefit from the latest teaching tools and choreography. We use the P.A.E.C., and R.A.D. curriculum, which has been proven to create strong and knowledgeable dancers. CDA has a variety of staff who specialize in certain styles of dance, ensuring there is always an expert teaching at CDA. Also we offer a special PRESCHOOL Dance Program for our youngest dancers, ages 2 1/2 and up, which is a professionally created syllabus designed especially for young children to introduce them to the world of music and dance.

3. Can I get immediate assistance and customer service?

In many studios the teacher or studio owner conducts the classes and does all the administration. Or the studio may have no customer service available if the teacher is in a class. To have a good experience it is important to choose a studio that can assist you with details like costumes or schedules, even if a teacher is occupied in a class. Our studio has office staff on hand Monday to Friday 3:30 pm – 8:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am -1:00 pm. Additionally, emails to cdadanceacademy@gmail.com will be responded to within 1 business day. CDA also has ample parking, clean spacious washrooms, vending machines and a comfortable waiting room for your convenience. We are also located at a great location walking distance from restaurants, grocery stores and shopping.

4. What other Bonuses and Activites are offered throughout the year?

Many studios offer only weekly dance classes. Studios such as CDA offer much more. We have annual tryouts for the competitive team, for a very minimal fee for technical classes received. Also, every dancer at CDA will get a certificate when you perform at our annual recital. CDA also participates in Newmarket and Aurora Santa Claus parade with a large float full of dancers. CDA Dance Academy has an annual Halloween party where young dancers can have fun and games in their Halloween costumes. CDA also has movie nights, allowing parents to ‘get out’ for cheaper then a babysitter and know that they are well taken care of and having a movie night themselves. There are lots of activities, with the option to participate or not given to each customer! It is all part of the CDA Dance Academy experience!

5. What are the ‘extras’ required for the year-end show?

Most studios put on a year-end show in a professional theatre. Students that perform in the show must have a costume for their dance numbers. Some studios may require parents to sew their child’s costumes or pay extra to have it adjusted. This can be inconvenient and frustrating for parents who are busy and do not sew. CDA Dance Academy uses our own professional seamstresses to alter the costumes so parents do not have to worry about any costume hassles. Our studio also has our tickets available for purchase on-line so you do not have to stand in long lines to purchase tickets. Finally, we are known for putting on the best, most professionally run recitals in town! Students and parents alike look forward to the year-end spectacular and are thrilled to be a part of it each year.
